Here are some images of theaters besides the ones we saw in class. Enjoy!

 

Above is plan for the theater at Epidauros, the largest extant theater on the Greek mainland. Notice the circular orchestra, in which the chorus would appear, surrounded by wedge-shaped banks of seats. Below is the Theater of Dionysos on the south slope of the Athenian acropolis.

To the left you can see one of the carved stone seats in the front row of the theater. Such seats were reserved for VIPs such as the priest of Dionysos or one of the ten generals.

 

 

 

 

 

Below is the theater at Delphi as seen from above the top row of seats. Below the theater, in the middle of the photo, you can see six columns - the remains of the Temple of Apollo.
