Delphi is known for its oracle and as a place for purification. It is a beautiful site on Mount Parnassus.

Here is an aerial shot to get you oriented. The big white splotch in the center is the theater; the rectangular structure to the left of it is the Temple of Apollo. The stadium is in the upper right, and the road to the modern town of Delphi is at the far left.

Purification for murder required the slaughter of a piglet over the polluted person's head. This vase painting depicts the purification of Orestes

This red-figure vase in the Harvard University Museum dates from about 350-340 BCE. It depicts Orestes (middle) at Delphi, fending off the Erinyes (left) with the protection of Apollo (right).
