Tips for Finding Faint Objects

If an object is not in the eyepiece after a "GOTO" procedure, the LX200 can do a spiral search automatically if you press the "GOTO" button again. When the object is visible, press "MODE" to stop the search.

The SYNC feature - which only works when in High Precision mode - can be useful for finding a faint object. To turn this on, go to the Setup menu, then "Telescope", and turn on High Precision. In this mode, "when looking for a faint object, Autostar II first slews to a nearby bright star and displays 'ENTER to Sync'. Center the star in the eyepiece, then press ENTER. At that point the telescope has a high precision alignment to that part of the sky and it then slews to the object that was originally requested."
