Week 13

There will be an astronomy colloquium on Friday, December 5, by Suzan Edwards, who'll be talking about accretion and jets in pre-main-sequence stars.

Our final meeting of the semester will be on Tuesday, December 9.


Week 12

There is no seminar meeting the week of Thanksgiving. Our next class meeting will be on Thursday, December 4. The final meeting of the semester will be the following Tuesday, December 9.


Week 11

There is no seminar meeting the week of Thanksgiving.


Week 10

Our next colloquium is this Friday. Nick Ouellette, class of 2002, and currently a professor at Yale, will be talking about hydrodynamical turbulence. And our next telescope open house is this Tuesday, at Sproul Observatory.


Week 9

Our next colloquium is Friday, November 14.


Week 8

Gail Glendinning's colloquium is this Friday, at 12:45.


Week 7

Our midterm will be in class on Thursday. It will be open book (Dyson and Williams only), and I'll supply you with a list of physical constants. Bring a calculator.

Also, I (David) am giving the pre-colloquium talk this week, for Gail Glendinning's colloquium, which is on Friday, October 31. The talk will be about extreme physics (and laboratory astrophysics) with large lasers.


Week 6

Our midterm will be after break; specific information will be given to you in class on Thursday. There isn't another colloquium until the end of October. New: we've moved our colloquium meeting this week to the Sunday at the end of break.


Week 5

Our midterm will be after break.


Week 4

There is a colloquium talk by Prof. David Statman, from Allegheny College, on liquid crystals, this Friday.


Week 3

There is a pre-colloquium talk by Peter Collings this Friday. The colloquium, the following week, is about liquid crystals.


Week 2

David's research colloquium is this Friday at 12:45 (pizza first). You can find out more about David's research on his website.


Week 1

Our first class meeting is Thursday, September 4, at 1:15 in Cornell 110. It's the small room, just to the right of the circulation desk at the front of the library.
